Last Chance to Try Our Highland Beef

We’re down to our very last Highland Beef hampers – and once they’re gone, they’re gone!

Beef hampers will be ready later this week / early next week, and this will be the final opportunity to enjoy our beautiful, hormone-free, 100% grass-fed Highland beef.

You might be wondering why “last chance”?
Sadly, it’s becoming harder and harder for small farmers like us to continue producing Highland beef. Many abattoirs perceive the horns as making processing more complicated, even though our Highlands are gentle and move through the yards with ease. On top of that, most abattoirs no longer return the hides, which means we can’t make use of this beautiful by-product.

We’ve been very fortunate with the abattoir we currently use – they’ve been amazing to us. The challenge comes afterwards: our fantastic butcher, who has always worked wonders with our beef, can no longer take it. With demand for their own work increasing, they simply can’t keep up. And as a small farm, we must ensure that everything we do follows the strict rules around health, safety, and food production. Without the right partners in place, it’s just not possible for us to continue.

It’s a real loss, as these cattle are part of a long tradition – hardy, friendly, and raised on nothing but good pasture. But right now, the system isn’t set up to make it easy for small farms to keep supplying them.

So if you’ve been thinking about trying Highland beef, or stocking up for the freezer, now’s the time. These last two steers are the end of an era here at Cadzow Croft.
